Remants of the 2008 WSOP

Although poker media left the 2008 WSOP over a month ago… Pokerati Dan has finally posted the Tao of Pokerati podcast (Episode 33).  I’m interviewed in this episode by Dan and Dr. Pauly but failed to answer their question.  Although, I’m not sure I was ever officially interviewed or asked a question (to understand why my last sentence was an unintended jab listen to the podcast).

And speaking of poker media… I just found this photo of flipchip that I took while I was sitting in the media box.  Actually, that was a lie.  I didn’t “just” find it… just waiting for an opportunity to post.

Poker Chicks on WPT

Tonight’s WPT episode will air the final six ladies of the WPT Ladies Championship on GSN.  This event caused a stir when a few players were upset they learned a portion of the buy-in would be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation after they bought in to the tournament (I think they bought in rather early).  I guess those ladies wouldn’t have played the event at all had they known the WPT would be reaching out to help the sick.  Tsk Tsk.

Donna Varlotto, A.K.A. Steve Wong’s fiance who didn’t learn poker from Steve Wong, will be on briefly and don’t forget Vanessa Selbst, the chick WCP thinks has a hot girlfriend, will be on the show as well.  Selbst is also known as that chick who has made several WSOP final tables, won a 2008 WSOP bracelet and is a Yale graduate.

Don’t forget the World Poker Tour will be moving over to FSN soon.

WPT Moving to Fox Sports

According to Pokerati, they were the second to break the news that the World Poker Tour is moving to Fox Sports.  This will be great for the WPT as Fox Sports is a big step up.  Hmmm, maybe Jeffrey Pollack put in a good word for them after Steve Lipscomb gave a fun visit at the 2008 WSOP.

I don’t know who broke the story first because I quickly left his site to be third.

Tiffany Michelle Releases Statement Today

tiffany-michelle-gloria-baldwin-espn

tiffany-michelle-gloria-baldwin-espnTiffany Michelle has released a statement today in regards to her recent disagreement with PokerNews.  She is confirming Monday’s (unofficial) statement which is also what I deleted from my post last night since I wanted confirmation from Tiffany before posting…

According to the statement… PokerNews was OK with Tiffany Michelle signing a deal with an online site and was hoping for a Pokerstars deal.  However, PokerNews was only OK with a deal if they were to receive a portion of any new deal she made… or something like that.  I would agree if they were paying her way for marketing only, however they were receiving 66.6% percent of her winnings.

Hump to the jump to read Tiffany Michelle’s Official Statement

WSOP Results: Pauly Needs Group Hug

wsop-media-jen-pauly-michalski

Pauly has made his annual WSOP post on I’m-so-disgusted-right-now-I-may-never-write-again.  Ahhh, the life of Pauly.  I should call him and cheer him up by reminding him that there are professional athletes and Universities on probation all the time due to drugs, money, theft or for being mean to another human being (while lookin’ out for numero uno).

wsop-media-jen-pauly-michalskiPauly, more WSOP photos and your cheer up message is at the bottom of the post so hump to the jump…

US Poker Players at the 2008 WSOP & Benjo the French

jean-claude-perrot-patrick_bueno

My friend and French poker writer Benjo made a post during the WSOP about the abundance of American flags and pride.  There were flags of all, errrr most nations on the tables during the 2008 WSOP Main Event.  Benjo may be French but don’t label him with the French stereotype because Benjo loves America and is nice, friendly, funny and did I mention very, very, very nice.

As for our American flag pride…  It’s a result of many things.  Here’s a few suggestions…

Goodbye 2008 WSOP… For Now…

I’m having WSOP déjà vu.  I think I may be on the same flight I took out of Las Vegas in 2006.  The sun has just dipped behind the mountains and the strip is beginning to twinkle with Neon.  Normally when I leave Las Vegas, I look out the window for the Bellagio fountains but when I leave the WSOP my eyes are drawn to the Rio.  My thoughts linger on the little things like…

Phil Hellmuth: Last Champion Standing in 2008 WSOP Main Event

phil_hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth is the last former champ standing in the 2008 WSOP Main Event.  Hellmuth will start Day 6 in the penalty box for being kind enough to teach another player not to risk losing the World Series of Poker playing crappy cards berating another player.

2008 WSOP Media Event for Charity

The 2008 WSOP Media peeps had their/our annual media event today.  The freeroll WSOP Media Event awards charitable donations to the winners.  I showed up late because Jack Effel, 2008 WSOP Tournament Director, said it had a super slow structure.  Who knew he was kidding?  It must have been opposite day because two inexperienced poker players (or so they say) have cashed.  Eric Newby of RawVegas.tv and Seth Palansky who is the WSOP Communications Director.  No word on Palansky’s charity of choice but Newby is donating to a personal favorite of mine… Give Kids The World.

Thank you to Eric Newby!  Give Kids The World is a wonderful place.
