WSOP: Hellmuth Marches On, Cunningham is Lucky & Tiffany Michelle Calls in Sick

2008 WSOP Main Event Day Five:  Phil Hellmuth is still playing because wearing militia gear is lucky.  And we all know Hellmuth says you have to be lucky to win these tournaments or he would own enough gold bracelets to equate his weight.  It’s been a while since I worked at the circus but I’m guessing Hellmuth weighs about 216. 

I asked Tiffany Michelle if she called in sick at Pokernews which wouldn’t be very smart because her boss might see that on ESPN.  She said "I told them I would do interviews on break but they won’t let me!"  Well, it’s good to hear a boss or two (Tony G and John Caldwell) know a bit about poker.  Dear Mr. Caldwell and Mr. G, now that you know your employee is skipping out on work to play poker… you can get her updates here. 

Michelle also said… "I want to be the last Ho standing, you know because "Ho" was the last woman standing last year.  I want to be like her." Well, Maria Ho would be flattered to hear that statement and I think I could introduce you to her… wait… aren’t you two dating? Oh great, I just read WCP.  Why am I sharing a brain with those guys.  OK, so go here to read a bit more of the MicHo* relationship and here to read Girl on Girl with Michelle and Ho.  Note to WCP… MicHo is my Trademark (TM).

Finally, Allen Cunningham (photo right) may be proving his 2007 WSOP Main Event final table appearance was not a fluke.  Even though this will make Cunningham’s fifth cash at the 2008 WSOP and he has five WSOP bracelets… everybody knows you have to get lucky to win because Phil Hellmuth said so.

Alex Outhred “Got Lucky” & Day 4 WSOP

It’s Day 4 of the 2008 WSOP Main Event and Alex Outhred is doing well with 326K in chips.  I ran into Outhred at the Ante Up for Africa party at Pure Nightclub last week where we discussed his last minute entry into the WSOP Main Event.  Outhred said “I wanted to play Day 1D and I got lucky in that I bought the last seat.”  Or at least the last seat they were selling that day as they opened more seats late in Day 1C.  Outhred was backed by someone who was really impressed after watching him play.

Also eyeing the bracelet… Phil Hellmuth, Evelyn Ng with over 400k, Chip Jett, Robert Mizrachi, and Stephane Hornet (with the great last name).

Speaking of backers… my Main Event backer, Jolyne Thompson, will be grinding out Day 4.  Thompson and I met in Houston a few years back while playing poker.  She’s one of the few in Las Vegas that knows how I play so it was very flattering when she offered to back me.  Especially since she was originally a dealer.

And it was no surprise to Gary Friedlander and David Angel making Day 4 either as they’ve been playing Texas Holdem in Texas forever.

WSOP Women Shout Outs + Steve Wong

I’m late shouting out to the women that survived the 2008 WSOP Main Event Day 1C.  Survivors are Evelyn Ng, Liz Lieu, Lacey Jones, Tiffany Michelle and one of my backers Jolyne Thompson.  Sadly, Annie Duke and Maria Ho were eliminated today. But Donna Varlotto is still in… she’s Steve Wong’s fiance but she is known as Donna Varlotto.  Here’s a photo of Steve Wong after learning that now he and Donna both have officially made Day 2.

World Series of Something Going On

It’s WSOP Day 2A and July Day 4.  I keep forgetting it’s a holiday because everyday in Las Vegas is a Friday.  I’m tired and way behind schedule to play satellites.  Last night was the Bodog party and it was tons of fun.  They didn’t have strippers but they had the Bodog Girls dressed as pin-up girls.  It was so cute! Poker pros on hand were Evelyn Ng, Maria Ho, David Williams, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Jeff Madsen and Jean-Robert Bellande.  Justin Bonomo was deep in the deep stack over at the Venetian.  Tiffany Michelle was also there in a great mood because she:

  • was with Maria Ho
  • found out she was playing in the Main Event
  • saw me in a dress

Madsen had a swollen lip.  We couldn’t decide if we wanted to say he was hit in the face with a basketball by Charles Barkley or if a girl bit his lip when he was in the dark corner.  As a woman… I think the Barkley senario makes for a better story.  And yes… Barkley was at the party, yes there was a basketball court in the suite and yep… Barkley told me this was sooo funny.  Super funny thing went down last night at the 2008 WSOP Bodog party… but you will have to wait and watch it on RawVegas.tv I can’t tell you

WSOP Updates

The WSOP Main Event is so important that when the fire alarm went off… no one got up.

Dan Harrington and Bobby Baldwin were given a round of applause for playing poker today and having WSOP bracelets for playing poker. 

Joe Sebok knocked out James Mackey.

New media people are showing up and trying to take over the spots of the media people who have been here since opening day.  A lot of media people bumping into other media people without saying excuse me or apologizing. 

The Rio is sold out tonight.

No strippers on the rail but Sapphire girls are in the hallway.

The Planter’s Peanut guy is back.

The Gaming Expo is going on and I haven’t been in there yet but I’m sure it’s doing OK without me.

And finally, Tiffany Michelle came by and gave me a massage at the media desk.  She is a licensed massage therapist you know.

2008 WSOP Interviews & Player of the Year Race

Seriously…so many pros winning bracelets at the 2008 WSOP is great and bad… It’s always easier to tell yourself you didn’t win a bracelet because of the donk-a-fields.  Now, it sucks for pros to say… Eric Lindgren, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, David Singer, Mike Matusow and Max Pescatori won bracelets…WTF is wrong with me? 

Lindgren is now first in the 2008 WSOP Player of the Year race.  At his heals is Barry Greenstein and Vanessa Selbst.  Selbst, known to have some gamble in her, won the Pot-Limit Omaha Event 19 last week taking down her first bracelet.  Nope, this was not her first rodeo folks… she now has 7 WSOP cashes under her belt.
