WSOPE Proves Strange Poker Events

wsope

wsopeFor those of you who were too drunk to watch the WSOPE after the Super Bowl last night, you missed some crazy, wild poker playing.  Here are a few things worth mentioning:

Scotty Nguyen playing quietly without a beer or a “hey baby.”

Phil Hellmuth acting like a gentleman.

Phil Laak playing the best hand post flop.  Twice .

Dealers burning and turning without a twenty minute delay.

But special thanks to Gary Loveland and his responsible gaming commercial to provide some familiarity to our weekly dose of poker.

Too bad for any typos, I’m tired.

It’s Official… Tiffany Michelle is a Ho

Tiffany Michelle wanted to match Maria Ho’s 2007 WSOP 38th place so that she could also be a Ho.  Another mission complete as they are now down to 36 players in the 2008 WSOP Main Event.  Michelle is currently 7th in chips trailing the leader Brandon Cantu.  Oooo, Oooo, Oooo.

In related news, Gert Anderson is hot on Cantu’s heels looking to win millions and millions of dollars.  I just hope if Andersen wins… he doesn’t burn through the bills as fast as Arthur Andersen (circa 2000 something).

And in totally related news… like him or not, Phil Hellmuth is outta of the race.

And in kind of related news that isn’t Gary Gnews… check out my latest Girl on Girl Interview.  Or you can watch the Gary Gnu Show after the jump.  Because we all know… no gnews is good gnews…

Phil Hellmuth: Last Champion Standing in 2008 WSOP Main Event

phil_hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth is the last former champ standing in the 2008 WSOP Main Event.  Hellmuth will start Day 6 in the penalty box for being kind enough to teach another player not to risk losing the World Series of Poker playing crappy cards berating another player.

WSOP: Hellmuth Marches On, Cunningham is Lucky & Tiffany Michelle Calls in Sick

2008 WSOP Main Event Day Five:  Phil Hellmuth is still playing because wearing militia gear is lucky.  And we all know Hellmuth says you have to be lucky to win these tournaments or he would own enough gold bracelets to equate his weight.  It’s been a while since I worked at the circus but I’m guessing Hellmuth weighs about 216.

I asked Tiffany Michelle if she called in sick at Pokernews which wouldn’t be very smart because her boss might see that on ESPN.  She said "I told them I would do interviews on break but they won’t let me!"  Well, it’s good to hear a boss or two (Tony G and John Caldwell) know a bit about poker.  Dear Mr. Caldwell and Mr. G, now that you know your employee is skipping out on work to play poker… you can get her updates here

Michelle also said… "I want to be the last Ho standing, you know because "Ho" was the last woman standing last year.  I want to be like her." Well, Maria Ho would be flattered to hear that statement and I think I could introduce you to her… wait… aren’t you two dating? Oh great, I just read WCP.  Why am I sharing a brain with those guys.  OK, so go here to read a bit more of the MicHo* relationship and here to read Girl on Girl with Michelle and Ho.  Note to WCP… MicHo is my Trademark (TM).

Finally, Allen Cunningham (photo right) may be proving his 2007 WSOP Main Event final table appearance was not a fluke.  Even though this will make Cunningham’s fifth cash at the 2008 WSOP and he has five WSOP bracelets… everybody knows you have to get lucky to win because Phil Hellmuth said so.

*MicHo – the relationship between Tiffany Michelle and Maria Ho which is a spoof on Benifer and all of those other stupid combo relationship names that make for lazy typing.

Alex Outhred “Got Lucky” & Day 4 WSOP

tiffany-michelle-08

It’s Day 4 of the 2008 WSOP Main Event and Alex Outhred is doing well with 326K in chips.  I ran into Outhred at the Ante Up for Africa party at Pure Nightclub last week where we discussed his last minute entry into the WSOP Main Event.  Outhred said “I wanted to play Day 1D and I got lucky in that I bought the last seat.”  Or at least the last seat they were selling that day as they opened more seats late in Day 1C.  Outhred was backed by someone who was really impressed after watching him play.

tiffany-michelle-08 Poker media peeps: Tiffany Michelle. Read about Jeremiah Smith here.

Also eyeing the bracelet… Phil Hellmuth, Evelyn Ng with over 400k, Chip Jett, Robert Mizrachi, and Stephane Hornet (with the great last name).

Speaking of backers… my Main Event backer, Jolyne Thompson, will be grinding out Day 4.  Thompson and I met in Houston a few years back while playing poker.  She’s one of the few in Las Vegas that knows how I play so it was very flattering when she offered to back me.  Especially since she was originally a dealer.

And it was no surprise to Gary Friedlander and David Angel making Day 4 either as they’ve been playing Texas Holdem in Texas forever.

Main Event Day 3 Gets to the Money

effel-and-pollack-shuffle-up

Shuffle up and deal will be announced shortly and the remaining 855 players of the 2008 WSOP Main Event will duke it out for money.  The 2008 WSOP Main Event will pay 666 players and I would imagine most are looking to “just get in the money.”  But there are players with bigger goals than a 100% (and change) return on their investment.

effel-and-pollack-shuffle-up1David Angel, who my father-in-law says is one the best poker players he has ever played, is still in and I can promise you… he’s not looking to win 20k.  And neither should Day 2B chip leaders Peter Biebel, Alex Outhred, Baja Kattamuri and Steven Goosen.  Hopefully, players with an M over 100 are feeling confident enough to play their “A” game while staying humble.  Outhred, who teaches at the WSOP Academy, knows this and should be the one to watch.  One thing is for sure… Phil Hellmuth is sitting on 196K and we all know the money is nice but he has his eye on winning some WSOP jewelry.

Don’t forget to check out coverage on ESPN 360, live updates on Pokernews, girls still playing the Main Event on WCP and ramblings from Pauly.

Good luck to Jeff “Tarzan Jeff” Gibralter, Gary Friedlander and all my other friends!

Phil Hellmuth Still Playing Poker After All These Years

Phil Hellmuth is still in the 2008 WSOP Day 1D and naturally what better place than the featured table with lots and lots of cameras.

Hellmuth looking like he’s in a hand… then…

Hellmuth looking like he:

1. Made a good lay down.

2. Beat by someone who had a lot of outs with proper odds to call (because he’s not yelling at anyone and believe it or not he can be nice).

3. Won the pot but feels really bad about winning the pot.
