Michael Mizrachi 2010 WSOP

Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi has made the 2010 WSOP Main Event final table…which also means he will be AKA a November Nine-r.  Shouldn’t be a surprise though because I said last month it was The Year of the Bro.

This year, the Mizrachi brothers have made at least a dozen cashes at the WSOP and a few final tables.  Not to mention, both Michael and Robert playing the 50K WSOP Championship final table earlier in the series.

I”m sorry if I offend anyone, but I find it rather interesting people rooting for him after talking smack a few weeks ago when he sported a small business outdoor furniture patch. But then again, I’ve seen a lot of interesting things this year.

I’m not sure if his brother Eric is his best cheerleader or not because he may be the only Mizrachi Bro I follow on Twitter.  Nonetheless, if you want to know when Michael is going to do anything just follow his brother Eric on Twitter.

Sexy, Smart Hedy Lamarr + November Nine

hedy-lamarr

I confess, I know little Hollywood history.  But last night, web surfing reduced my Hollywood Golden Age ignorance when I came across Hedy Lamarr.   I didn’t know anything about Lamarr… much less her name, yet, I knew her face.  As a teenager, I saw her picture every Friday at the movie theatre.  I remember her face because she reminded me of my mother.  Mesmerized by Lamarr’s photos, my ADD sent me into a hour long Hedy surf.

The more I read…the more I liked.  Lamarr’s quote “ Any girl can be glamorous.  All you have to do is stand still and look stupid.”  transformed my like into love. Ah, show me your wit, I’ll show you my heart. Doesn’t wit usually coexist with a high IQ?  Not sure, but this sexy woman was smart.  And smart… goes a long way in my book.   She co-patented an early form of Frequency-hopping as a military defense that wasn’t used until years later because it was ahead of it’s time.  While her invention was used in the Cuban Missile Crisis, Lamarr’s patent became so valuable to mobile communications that she was paid an undisclosed amount by Ottawa wireless technology developer Wi-LAN, Inc. approximately 50 years later.

It’s highly unlikely Lamarr ever attended the WSOP, however, she was born on November 9th which also became Inventor’s Day in her honor.   So, it’s only fair she scores a few more points due to my number nine fondness.  So, next November Nine, remember Hedy Lamarr’s birthday when booting up a laptop.

PS – Rachel Weisz is rumored to play Hedy Lamarr in Amy Redford’s upcoming film Face Value.  No idea on the latest with that as I ran out of Google time.

My Pick Of 2009 WSOP November Nine

The 2009 WSOP Final Nine are officially playing. James Akenhead, Steven Begleiter, Eric Buchman, Joe Cada, Phil Ivey, Darvin Moon, Antoine Saout, Kevin Schaffel and Jeff Shulman are playing the first final table, IMHO, that has the most hype. While last year was the first final table delay, there was so much speculation on whether the delay was OK… it sort of deflated some of the hype. It was like no one wanted to come out of the closet and admit they liked the idea until a cool person gave a stamp of approval.

Anyway, my pick of the 2009 WSOP litter is Eric Buchman. Buchman and I became friends after we made a final table together at the 2006 WSOP. Actually, it was more like… when I made him lose his tough poker face and smile. In fact, Phil Ivey came close to making that final table with a 21st place cash. I didn’t play with Ivey very much but I did play with Eric quite a bit. And I can tell you… Eric is a very good player.

Of course, Ivey is a great player as well. If he had more chips, I may have picked him (sorry Eric). However, if there is anyone who can turn a short stack around… it would be Phil Ivey so I’m not exactly convinced Ivey won’t win. Sadly, all it takes is an underdog to hit his hand and if you don’t have the chips…well…you know. Either way, I’m happy to see both players at the final table and excited for today’s coverage here, here and here.

WSOP Final Table + Nine Poker Players = Cash

The 2008 World Series of Poker….  November Nine TM will reunite this weekend at the WSOP Final Table.  In less than four days we will learn who earned the most interest on the escrowed prize pool.

The $98,179 earned in interest will be awarded on a sliding scale with the 1st place winner receiving 33.51% and 8th place earning 1.5% in interest.  Whoever wins number 9 on the 9th of the 9 will get nada of the interest.
