Joe Sebok posting he signed with UltimateBet on Monday is so Monday’s news. Joe Sebok having haters because of his Ub deal is… crazy news. But people love crazy.
Hating on Sebok is so ridiculous, it’s like hating on Deepak Chopra. And because of this wrongful act of hating… Haters will now be viewed negatively worldwide. Why do a couple of Haters have to go out and ruin the reputations of all the other Haters? I mean, obviously it’s OK to hate on people when they make decisions for themselves that we find disappointing, but come on… Sebok?* That’s just caaaaraaaazy.

It was not so long ago when all of my poker media friends were tweeting how they were on their way to Vegas for six weeks at the 2009 WSOP. Those days are gone. Forever. And now days before the last nine players are standing (or IMHO still sitting)…I’m reading the same things I read every year “Get me out of here, only 4 more days, I can’t take Vegas anymore and so on.” Trust me, they’re all grateful for such fun careers but Vegas wears on the soul whether you work long hours or you’re just a compulsive gambler (not… like me).
However, in those last days of the series… there are certain players who make staying worthwhile. And a couple of those players are former Studs of Poker like… Pokerati’s favorite Tom Schneider the Donkey Bomber and Poker Road’s Stud Joe Sebok. As well as Phil Ivey, JC Tran, Kenny Tran, Theo Tran, Kara Scott Tobin, Fabrice Soulier, David Levi and Houston players Jason Brice and Thai Tran. Get your updates here.

I’ve been debating whether to mention Obama and McCain debating and decided I needed a break from serious debates. I mean let’s face it, no matter what… things will change. We’ll either go from white to black*, male to female** or from younger-ish guy with an old back-up or to a really old guy*** with a young-female-back-up****. And still… things won’t be much better for a while unless your lucky to have a ton of gold bars under your bed.
On a lighter note…

The other not-really-a-battle going on in the world is… Joe Sebok VS Joe Reitman avatar/profile pic via MySpace. Yes, it’s true both these guys don’t care what you think, both are nice, both are in media, both play poker, both are named Joe and both hooked up with Shannon Elizabeth (formerly known as Shannon Elizabeth Dancing with the Stars).
So, when you’re feeling blue just remember there is some Joe out there willing to look silly so you can feel better about low interest rates for those who can qualify and afford to put up 80% to get a loan.
*White to Black has no negative meaning, even though I’m from the south and Allah us people from the south are totally racist.
** Male to Female has lots and lots and lots of negative meaning because I hate women and think they’re all, like, I’m soooo sure, like OMG, stupid.
***Old guy description has no negative meaning, as I’ve found older generations to be humble they have less to prove.

World Series of Poker Day 1A just opened with Wayne Newton as I reported yesterday. Scotty Nguyen was given an introduction as the 2008 HORSE Event by WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack (see photo). And the Rio is sold out during the World Series of Poker Main Event. Who knew? Looks like I’m "roughin’ it" across the tracks at the Bellagio for the night.
Also,table orange 33 is the second featured table for ESPN which would be the table with ESPN cameras filming players playing poker.
And Joe Sebok is playing with James Mackey on his left in photo below.
Last week at the WSOP, Joe Sebok and I agreed to meet for an interview next to the WSOP ESPN stage. After retrieving my recorder, it took 20 minutes to walk back to the other side of the room. It was my fault it took so long, I wanted to take pictures of Amanda Leatherman raking in a big pile of chips playing in the Ladies Event. But then someone said “hello”, we began to chat, I saw someone else, we began to chat… then my purse began to buzz and I continued East. It also took 20 minutes because that’s how long it takes to walk anywhere inside the Rio.
Then it took a few minutes to start the interview because Sebok’s fans, including MySpace friends, started showing up for autographs. Actually, the MySpace friends was a joke. But several friends stopping by to see Joe is not a joke because he’s Mr. Friendly. He also had to make sure John Stapleton cleaned his buffalo wings off the tournament poker table.
The is media life in the Amazon Ballroom. It consists of delayed agendas, welcomed chats, photo opportunities, non-stop joking around and buffalo wings on the table. It’s really one big summer camp party… except for moments of elimination. Six weeks of 55 events…the Amazon Room can get old. Yet, Sebok lives this experience all year, developing relationships with people who love, respect and believe in him.
Holding a psychology degree from Berkeley and known as “Barry’s kid” he is often feared at the table. However, Chops, of Wicked Chops Poker, will tell you “He is one the nicest, smartest guys I know in the poker industry.” So, to make sure Chops wasn’t lying… I asked Sebok to share with me about his poker success, furrys, media adventures, infamous and famous prop bets and what advice he received from Barry Greenstein
