Jeffrey Pollack Not Leaving Poker Entirely

Where in the world is Jeffrey Pollack? Most of you read Danerati’s post about Pollack jumping on board with the Professional Bull Riders.  Pollack will be riding bulls about as often as he played Lyle Berman heads up and or the WSOP Ladies Event.  Which was never.  However, if you want to know if Pollack will be around the poker world?  Here’s what he had to say:

Michele Lewis:  OK Jeffrey, let’s hear what’s going on?  I should be calling you Benny Binion now that you’re mixing poker with rodeo, no?

Jeffrey Pollack:  First, my dear, the PBR is not the rodeo. It’s the world’s most competitive bull riding and a sport that requires enormous athletic skill, physical strength, bravery and courage. As to mixing the PBR with poker, that’s not in plan.

ML:  Technically, you’re on the board of PBR rather than an employee.  Regardless of title, you’re known as a hard worker, however, there’s a rumor you’re planning to announce something in the poker industry.  Is this true?

JP:  I usually don’t comment on rumors. Seth Palansky taught me that. But, I will say that I do have a plan to launch something meaningful for the poker industry, so stay tuned on that one.

ML:  You have been missed at the WSOP this year… is there anything you would like to say to the friends you made over the years?

JP:  That’s nice to hear. Part of me misses the WSOP, too. I will always be a fan and WSOP Nation will always have a special place in my life. There are lots of players, dealers, floor staff, corporate and Rio folks, partners and fans, I miss, too.  If there is one message, it’s that I wish them all a very successful WSOP and I hope 2010 is the best year, yet.

2009 WSOP Conference Call Coming Soon

effel-and-pollack-shuffle-up11

effel-and-pollack-shuffle-up11The World Series of Poker will be having their ask-me-anything-conference-call on April 28th about the 2009 WSOP.  Which means one shouldn’t ask questions unrelated to the WSOP or how things like how big will the prize be?  But who cares, I will be asking Jeffrey Pollack if he will have In-N-Out Burger cater to all final tables.  Additionally, since they had Krispy Kremes for sale last year…  can we have hot Krispy Kremes this year?

Pollack will be joined by Tournament Director, Jack Effel and ESPN Senior Director of Programming and Acquisitions, Doug White .

Three-Way Tie = Poker Studs

It’s no surprise Wicked Chops Poker made Bluff Magazine’s ”Poker’s Power 20” this month. Apparently, followers of the popular poker site believe… a day of poker news without WCP is like a day without sunshine.  After all, what would loyal readers do without the Friday Night Parting Shot, blurry poker pro photos overpowered by sharp background breasts, clever phrases like “A Woman”,  Ginger sightings or simply policing them as ”sexy pigs” or better, sexy pigs who post pictures of sexy girls .

It’s hard to decide what to call them… WCP, The Guys at Wicked Chops and the latest fave ”The Entities.”  Not that it really matters, as their readership has skyrocketed in the past four years landing them the WSOP Commissioner, Jeffrey Pollack, as a huge fan.

Metaphorically speaking, they possess an additional quality that puts the man in manly and that’s… balls.  Sure, plenty of people have courage to step up and express their thoughts but few can speak brutal honesty combined with style and wit.

Even better is their ability to laugh when people like Dr. Pauly said… ”The poker world desperately needed an influx of homosexual hipsters like the gang at WCP.  Without them, the poker world would be a bunch of overweight schleps.” And while I’m sure they chuckle at the above statement, it’s quite possible Erica Schoenberg made them speechless (for about two seconds) with her description “You know you’ve arrived when Wicked Chops talks about you.”

Michele Lewis:  What inspired WCP?

THE ENTITIES:  Nothing, really. At the time we didn’t see anyone covering poker the way we wanted to read about it, so we just decided to do it ourselves.

WPT Moving to Fox Sports

According to Pokerati, they were the second to break the news that the World Poker Tour is moving to Fox Sports.  This will be great for the WPT as Fox Sports is a big step up.  Hmmm, maybe Jeffrey Pollack put in a good word for them after Steve Lipscomb gave a fun visit at the 2008 WSOP.

I don’t know who broke the story first because I quickly left his site to be third.

Does Ty Stewart Have Job Openings at the WSOP?

Breaking News… No word if Ty Stewart, WSOP Director of Sponsorship and Licensing, is opening up marketing positions with the WSOP; however, Steve Lipscomb, CEO of the World Poker Tour was touring today with Jeffrey Pollack in the Amazon Room (photo below).

Obviously not the case but definitely a funny and somewhat respectable site to see. In fact, Lipscomb might have had the biggest set today and I’m not talking cards.

Jeffrey Pollack Loves Wicked Chops

So the other night at the Johnny Chan All In party Jeffrey Pollack told me "I read Wicked Chops and I love it!"  I told him I was going to quote him as a fellow blogger but he said I couldn’t call him a fellow blogger because then he might start blogging every day.

Then Shelley Rubenstein asked Lance Bradley if he would be willing to throw Pollack in the pool for 10k?  To which Pollack responded "that’s it? only 10k?"  Which had nothing to do with the WCP quote because Rubenstein loves WCP too.  Or she’s a great actress.

Bluff Not Sold & Palansky + Pollack WSOP Preparations

The new WSOP Director of Corporate Communications, Seth Palansky, is probably practicing his perfect NFL spiral to Jeffrey Pollack in the Amazon Ballroom right now. Actually, considering the liability of tag football around ESPN’s equipment, the long hallway outside the ballroom makes more sense. Nonetheless, when I see them together I’m going to call them the P & P Poker Factory.  Now if we could just get them to sing…”Everybody Play Now”  No offense to any real C & C Music Factory fans. But hey, I’m just a squirrel trying to get a nut and apparently the music just took control.  In fact, just listening to the C & C YouTube video has made me want to broadcast myself stand up and do the robot dance in Starbucks.  If you’re not following my ADD tangent then click the link above.

Not sure if Eric Morris, Bluff Magazine and baseball junkie, is there yet back up dancing cheering them on but I am sure he will be disappointed when I tell him I didn’t see Jeff Bagwell or Craig Biggio at the pool this weekend.  Rumors have been circulating lately that Bluff was recently sold.  “I was the last to hear” joked Morris before confirming the rumor to be just that…a rumor.  Hmmm, I’m sure he would sell for the right price.  After all, isn’t that the beauty of capitalism?  In the meantime…Bluff Media will be broadcasting some of the final tables here.

Jeffrey Pollack Stud Commissioner

The head honcho of the World Series of Poker, Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack, will be the first to admit he’s not there to change the game of poker but there to improve the business side of what he claims to be the best poker brand. He humbly acknowledges the WSOP was a great poker tournament before his arrival but believes growth was needed in new directions by modernization. I had a chance to catch up with this “Stud of Poker” earlier this week to find out what’s new for the 2008 WSOP. And of course, I had to ask him again about the strippers and Chippendale dancers attendance at the Gaming Life Expo.

Dealing in Jeffrey Pollack

This July marked the two-year anniversary of WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack’s relocation to Las Vegas, which he describes as “interesting and eye opening.” Showing up to the Amazon Room on Day 5 of the World Series Main Event wearing a suit but no tie, Jeffrey sat down with me at a recently vacated tournament table.

Pollack is often accused of spinning his answers; however, common sense should explain he can’t guarantee anything nor disclose much due to common corporate confidentiality agreements during a leverage buy-out with new owners on the horizon. While we didn’t toss cards, we did toss ideas about the Amazon Room hosting in 2009, the Gaming Life Expo strippers, the ladies bracelet event is here to stay and what he’ll be doing in August before he jets off to Europe.
