ESPN’s latest WSOP coverage was pretty good. Here’s my list of how to make it better:

  • Jc “Just Call” Tran is really still in the tournament (let’s hope he won his last longest).
  • Speaking of Sebok… more coverage of the guy to his left, Fabrice Soulier.
  • Speaking of more coverage… more coverage of Julie (Tom Schneider’s wife) .
  • Phil Ivey doing the Running Man dance while singing Ice Ice Baby.
  • Tabasco uses Prahlad Friedman’s Rap and face on the singing pepperoni pizza commercial so the commercial wouldn’t be so freakin’ freaky. See Friedman’s rap video below.
  • WSOP Honchos, Jeffrey Pollack and Seth Palansky, should feed their wild side and be in a Jack’s Links Beef Jerky commercial.
  • We didn’t know we could buy a Snuggie for our dogs.  I already had to buy one for my daughter.

JC Tran Gets What He Deserves… the Gold

JC Tran just won a bracelet at the 2008 WSOP.  Wow, I just don’t even know what to write because I’m so excited for him.  I got a chance to chat with him a few moments ago and the look on his face explained what any fan of Tran knows… it was a long time coming.

Tran is by far one of the best players in the world and I’m not saying that because he told me I was a good player (yeah, I’m tooootally bragging there).  I’m saying that because he is a great player and unlike many… he strives and succeeds at remaining humble. His WPT and WSOP poker success is impressive yet many times he has just missed the gold… until tonight.

Looking tired he headed off to dinner and after that… I’m sure he will get a good night’s sleep and be back tomorrow for more poker action.  Congratulations JC!  Job well done.

Amnon Filippi

My first memory of New Yorker Amnon Filippiwas of him walking around the Bellagio Fontana Room during The Festa al Lago announcing “One hundred last longer and don’t ask me any stupid questions.”  While I found his loud New York accent a bit intimidating it was clear he had a great sense of humor and was popular amongst the self amused pros as they asked him… stupid questions.

Amnon Filippi will be the first Stud of Poker as he possesses a long poker resume, six cashes at this year’s WSOP including a fourth place finish in the H.O.R.S.E. event which made him one of the top most viewed players on various poker websites.  Amnon’s to date winnings are over 1.5 million and it should come as no surprise if you start hearing more about this guy. Last week, he told me his position on last longest bets, JC Tran “not” taking a piece of him in the H.O.R.S.E. Event and where he’s heading next.

And sorry ladies…he’s unavailable. [Read more...]
