A few weeks ago, my son noticed some 18-Wheeler bling. Above the blaring Black Eye Peas, he shouted “Mommy, look at that lady on that truck!” I didn’t need to look at the lady he spied. But I did. How could I not look? How do you miss those rare opportunities to see the Mud-Flap-Girl on an actual 18-Wheeler mud-flap?
I glanced over and there, covered in exhaust, grease and grime, was the ageless Freeway Beauty Queen…. the Mud-Flap-Girl. “Yes, that’s the Mud-Flap-Girl. She’s been around a long time.” Naturally, that led to 50 questions, which led to Google and…to this great updated MFG pic below.

So, in honor of the Mud-Flap-Girl going PC (possibly Mac), I’ve put her up as my Facebook Profile Pic.

Finally… the Longhorns face Alabama in the Rose Bowl. Can Colt McCoy give us a little Vince Young Hook’em tonight?
One (and only) reason Alabama winning tonight would be good… Shannon Shorr will be happy. Shorr is in Pasadena, follow Shorr’s Twitter Rose Bowl updates during the game here and his blog here.

It’s True… I Heart Robert Goulet

Sure, I wear Misfits shirts and I’m no stranger to Gwar, Pantera, 20 Metallica shows and saw Marilyn Manson in like 93 when he was just beginning to manipulate sheepish teenagers into spending their allowance on his high maintenance make-up habit… but for the New Year… I’m coming out of the closet and getting honest.
My love for Hip-Hop, Punk and Metal is really an act to cover up my true love of Robert Goulet. If you want a piece of my heart…. let’s start from the start and watch the following show…. Robert Goulet sings Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend” on Conan O’Brian. Amazingly, Goulet has aged really well and looks like SNL’s Will Ferrell. Which is just crazy.
Just for the record… I often tell people I’m working for the weekend and rarely does anyone get it. But that’s OK because I’m really selfish and only interested in entertaining myself.
Did I just say that out loud? No, I typed it, totally different.
Dark Side On Halloween

I have wanted to be Darth Vader for Halloween forever. It’s hard for us women to find a cool costume because most costumes make us look like prostitutes. Which is why I call Halloween… National Hooker Day. Yeh, I know…the French Maid costume from two years ago was an experiment and went with my husband’s Marquis de Sade.
Anyway, I won’t be wearing my usual banana or cow costume for Halloween this year. My son and I are both going to be… Darth Vader. However, I might smack the next person who asks “Why don’t you want to be the good guy?” Seriously, don’t ask this question unless you want people to think you’re the last surviving member of society who has not seen Star Wars. Or you want to spend 30 minutes talking to a Star Wars fan tonight. Anakin was good but he was manipulated into the Dark Side by a smooth talker. He grew angry and dark as Darth Vader because he lost his wife and kids. Anyone see that part? No? Then let me ruin the ending…in the end… Vader overcomes his obstacles, saves Luke, defeats the Empire by sacrificing his own life then hangs out with Obi-Wan and Yoda for eternity. Geeze, how do people ignore something so significant?
Anyway, as for covering up tonight… it’s cold outside. And what women doesn’t already wear this once a week anyway?

You can buy this Princess Leia Slave costume on the StarWars site.
Beat Cancer Without Health Insurance

Watching a family member battle cancer is hard. In the past few years, I’ve watched my husband’s grandfather lose, my son win and now my father is fighting round two. During the Lance Armstrong yellow bracelet craze, my son was diagnosed with Wilm’s Tumor. He was two-years-old.
Until today, I never realized Armstrong fought cancer without health insurance. Health insurance wasn’t an issue for my family but I have to wonder about the patients I watched suffering in the infusion room. As if fighting the disease wasn’t enough stress.
If your in support of better ways to get health insurance check out this link LIVESTRONG health care reform.

Cougars Love Case Keenum

Sure, maybe I was a cougar when I met my husband and he was so young, he road a moped and I paid for our first date. But now I’m loving Case Keenum who happens to be getting love by thousands of Cougars.
I haven’t been to a Cougar football game since Andre Ware won the Heisman Trophy. That was back when UH was busted for paying young hot guys to join the Cougar team. That’s actually how UH got their name The Cougars. Kidding.
Fortunately, word is… Keenum isn’t paid. He’s just a great player. A diamond in the rough who seems to remain humble. So, if you’re not a Texas Tech fan then give it up for the Cougars tonight. Or at least give a Go Coogs! Tweet. I mean really, how can you not root for or show some love to Cougars?

Mobile Blackberry Blogging Applications

Mobile blogging isn’t exactly new. Generally speaking, a lot of technology isn’t really new either, it’s usually just improved. On second thought, I guess it’s always new to someone. For example, my idea to sms updates into an organized website a few years back wasn’t new, I just couldn’t find anyone offering such software. Stupid idea it was, by the way.
While I’ve blogged via email/phone in the past, my preference was to post via computer. This weekend might have changed me. I came across Screamingtoaster’s Wicked Mobile Blogging for Blackberrys which works with WordPress. I have to say I’m very excited to try this because it’s the antagonist to the blogger butt and will allow me to post things like… WSOPE has started Event 2 in London. And how awesome is it to blog and work out at the same time? I mean, except for listening to the grunting treadmill behind me because I forgot my iPod. Furthermore, I’m on autopilot when I exercise. It is the time, as I told Chaz B., where I have my deepest sociological behavioral analytical thoughts. It also happens to be the time where I don’t have grammar and decent spell check. Not that I use those as often as I should, but hey… One day my kids will grow up and can be my editor.
This is my first mobile Blackberry post so I may lack links, high resolution pics and the ability to use some plugins. Sorry!
As to last week, I still haven’t made a decision on making a Vlog. Unless, SNL’s Astronaut Jones (Tracey Morgan) wants to do my hair and make-up, I may not have an answer for a few weeks.

Looking Forward… Shana Tova

Happy New Year or as Obama said today… L’ Shana Tova. It seems like every Rosh Hashanah or January 1st, at least one person says “Let’s hope this year will be better.” I don’t recall feeling a strong urge to purge the previous year. I’ve always been a big believer in things happen for a reason and each struggle has a lesson… blah, blah, blah. I mean, come on…. when you lose family members to cancer, your two-year-old has cancer, your mother-in-law is shot, you live in bed over half the year due to a high risk pregnancy, your daughter is born 2 months early all within a couple of years… you tend to… toughen up.
Don’t be impressed… I was wrong. I can’t say I gained any strength over the past few years but I can say I grew angry and resentful. Especially, this year due to bad situations during bad times. I mean, if the United States Government has to spend billions helping people out… that calls for bad times, right? And to top it off… we’re almost out of bees here in Houston due to last year’s Hurricane Ike.
The good news… bees live in places other than Houston. So, tonight… we will polish off our apples by downing a bottle of honey in hopes of a sweet new year. Mmmmm!Shana Tova, my friends. Shana Tova!
New VLog Up Then Down

Last year, I made my first Vlog. Then I pulled a classic Michele move and pressed delete. Pardon me, but I found that last sentence to be funny so I’m going to type it again. Then I pulled a classic Michele move and pressed delete.* Yeah, well… so what. Call me a fickle gemini but the truth is… a vlog just feels… like an episode of Astronaut Jones. You know, SNL’s ” Astronaut Jones Written by Tracy Morgan, Directed by Tracy Morgan, Hair and Make-up by Tracy Morgan, Produced by Tracy Morgan and Melvin Goldfarb.”
I don’t know… maybe a Vlog would prove to be a good experiment.** Kind of like… my professional photos were an experiment (a post for another time). Certainly, vlogs are an excellent blogging tool, fun for social media and modern Blackberry/iPhone technology makes it easy enough to vlog while grocery shopping. Watch out, Emeril?
I’m still out to lunch on this… I’ll keep you posted. For now, watch these two guys lip sync to the Astronaut Jones theme song.
*I’m often teased for deleting, creating, no deleting, ok creating, no definetly deleting several MySpace pages.
Children Feeling Foreclosure Stress
September 14, 2009 by michele lewis

It always amazes me how simple it is to slip into a world of… too busy to notice anything outside the daily to do list. I try to remind myself and encourage my children to feel gratitude for a roof over our heads, food on the table and good health. And I admit, since my voluteer days evolved then dissolved post hurricane… I don’t remember gratitude as often as I should (which should be remembered constantly). I am far from perfect and like others… days unfold, news clicks on, car horns honk, paper work awaits, stress lingers and fingers point. However, Erik Eckholm and Arianna Huffington pulled my evening from a self-spun-head-zone with…
“We live in a country that, one year ago this month, came together with a sense of national emergency, and bailed out banks that were “too big to fail. Shouldn’t we also be living in a country that can come together right now and bail out schoolchildren that are too small to be allowed to fail before they have been allowed to succeed?”
While banks, unemployment rates and health care have always taken focus, it seems the little things in life have remained… little. Naturally, we can’t keep children sheltered forever, however, these children can barely stay awake during school due to stress. Homeless children is not something we want to ponder, as it makes the heart cringe to think some child is trying to console desperate parents during hard times. So, where is your head today? The uneasy homeless children story can become the uncomfortable task of reaching out or just a quick click to… Megan Fox.
