Today’s Links Brought To You By…

blog_keyboard_michele_lewisToday’s Links (at the bottom) are brought to you by… Google Adsense.  Google Adsense, where I’ve been making cents for never making sense.

The FTC blog post news seems to have a few feathers ruffled.  The new rules will still allow bloggers to talk trash freely as long as they disclose who paid for the trash talk.  Oops, I meant…  New rules will still allow slander blogging but require compensation disclosure for all the blog’s positive posts.  Wow, excuse me…  New FTC rules cause blog panic as  readers realize blogger isn’t actually a topic expert but in fact… just a blogger.  Is this getting old?  OK, just one more… blah, blah, blah rules… Bloggers fear readers will realize they’re actually sell-outs and only posing to be independent thinkers.

I don’t know what I’m talking about. See? I never make any sense.  And now for some high-quality links…

A Dynamite link for this Kid’s FTC post.

Mike Sexton made the WSOP Hall of Fame.  Reactions to his new poker title should be far different than Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize.  Read more about Sexton + a video over on WCP.  Pauly also has a great read posted about Sexton.

Amy Calistri posted on the sad end of PokerPages.

Pokerati Dan has a video up of Lacey Jones which made me realize that Ms. Jones and I talk a lot about talking but never get the chance to talk.

Wrongful Hating On Sebok Give Haters Bad Rap

Joe Sebok is known for being a nice Berkeley Grad who knows how to dance

Joe Sebok is known for being a nice Berkeley Grad who knows how to dance

Joe Sebok posting he signed with UltimateBet on Monday is so Monday’s news.  Joe Sebok having haters because of his Ub deal is… crazy news.  But people love crazy.

Hating on Sebok is so ridiculous, it’s like hating on Deepak Chopra.  And because of this wrongful act of hating… Haters will now be viewed negatively worldwide.  Why do a couple of Haters have to go out and ruin the reputations of all the other Haters?  I mean, obviously it’s OK to hate on people when they make decisions for themselves that we find disappointing, but come on… Sebok?* That’s just caaaaraaaazy.

Read more about Sebok’s deal with the guys who know everything here. Read Sebok’s Stud of Poker Interview here.  To read how to make old news new news read here.

*I don’t find his decision disappointing.

Sad News in Poker

John Caldwell, loved by 99.9% (.1% reserved for liability purposes only) in the poker industry, has left the building.  Or at least the building of PokerNews.com.

No word if Caldwell will remain in the poker industry or not but one thing is for sure, he’s a tremendous asset to any company and I’m sure he will be missed by PokerNews.

As if PokerListings Run Good Challenge wasn't enough to make you run for your money, beginning this month is the PokerStars World Blogger Championship of Online Poker (see link below).

As for running good… well, my QQ flopped like a fish on the river when Kid Dynamite's 44 pulled a last second set.  But, that's poker and I've done the same to others.  Either way, I've made the final table which will be played this Saturday at 1pm Central on PokerStars.

Online Poker

I have registered to play in the PokerStars World Blogger Championship of Online Poker!

The WBCOOP is an online Poker tournament open to all Bloggers.

Check out PokerListings Run Good Challenge today at 2pm ET on PokerStars. Don't forget new players in the line up including WSOP bracelet winner Jason Young and gaming historian David Schwartz. Yet, as I mentioned here, several new ladies have joined the tournament series.

The three ladies of the previous challenge took first, second and third… let's go girls.

PokerListings Run Good Challenge Returns

I never thought I would say these horrible blogging words… I know it’s been a while since my last post but… But what pulled me back in? PokerListings Matt Showell and the Run Good Challenge (that’s Matt in the Poker Listings Pic).

While Showell was busy getting the band back together, apparently he recruited Liz Lieu on drums, Lacey Jones on base, Christina Lindley on keyboard, Calinfornia Jen on lead guitar and Benjo will join the original back up gospel singers (Chops and Pauly).  Returning Champ Change 100 will be lead singer.

There’s more to list and I will name them soon but it’s late and I have to begin praticing the triangle because I only play my Gretsch in private.

Read the list on Poker Listings of the really cool people who are back and who are new.

NFL Makes Poker Person Happy

Finally.  Houstonians have something to cheer about other than the return of electricity. The Houston Texans won their first game of the season today despite holes still in the roof.  It was a grim moment when the fourth down went south but fortunately the challenge was given a do-over approval.  I swear I could hear the players yelling "do-over! do-over!" And I’m so glad we didn’t leave the game before they re-did their do-over.  Even better was my son witnessing some fourth quarter success.

So how does this relate to poker?  Well, Seth Palansky of course.  Palansky, Communications Director for the World Series of Poker, was Director of Media Services for the NFL and before that… headed publicity campaigns for Fox Sports Net.

Sure, that might be impressive but not nearly as much as Palansky having Andre Johnson on his fantasy football league.  But I guess in the end, it really depends on whether or not one finds 178 receiving yards impressive.  At a minimum, this year the Texans will match the Miami Dolphins 2007 record.

Should the Texans win first draft pick…

By the way, don’t play poker with Palansky.  He says he doesn’t know how to play but he killed the WSOP media event.

Poker Chicks Run Good & Well

I was excited when I received Change100’s twitter that she had defeated Spaceman in the heads-up match securing her seat into the PokerListings Run Good Challenge Grand Finale.  No offense Spaceman but this divided the final table equally in gender.  I’ve been bugging Jeffrey Pollack to bring back a Mixed-Double’s event at the WSOP (Doyle Brunson and Starla Brodie won in 1979) but no word yet.

I was happy to make the final table considering I didn’t even play the second event due to my tardiness via a hurricane.  I got off to a good start when I flopped a king high flush against Dan Skolovy.  I will answer Pokerlistings Dan the reason I didn’t raise my flush on the river…in a private email.  Can’t let anyone know why I did what I did because then people might think us Texans have strategery

Anyway, Change "won" hundred took down the series after she crushed me heads up in one or two hands.  Naturally, I received 83, J3, 83, 73 and finally picked up JT and pushed.  As much as I love JT, I don’t like JT when my opponent has AA.  The End.

The best news of the whole series… the three women playing the NL holdem tournament won first, second and third. I’d like to thank PokerListings Matt Showell again for the invite, he has the goods here.

I would go over the hand history for you but I will leave that to Shamus who sums it up nicely here.  And my blog time is still minimal due to hurricane clean-up.

PokerListings Run-Good Challenge

Looks like I ran well in the PokerListings Run-Good poker tournament, as I’ve made it to the final round despite missing the second event.  I’d like to thank Matt Showell, Matt I couldn’t have done it without you.

A tie between Change100 and Spaceman has called for a dance to secure the 6th man/woman at the final table.

Shamus 14 points
Dan Skolovy 12 points
Dr. Pauly 8 points
Amy Calistri 8 points
Michele Lewis 6 points
Change100 4 points
Spaceman 4 points

A few things should be mentioned about the final six players…. Shamus read a few books before playing, likes Phil Collins and rarely chats.  Amy Calistri, whose blog is in limbo, rarely chats either but she puts up with all the nasty talk so she’s cool.  Dan “super user” Skolovy, promoted as a no-threat-player has now defined the meaning of Run-Good and likes beavers.  I can’t pick sides between Change100 and Spaceman because they’re both my friends and they both laugh at get my jokes. As for Dr. Pauly… I have a read on him.  He distracts by saying a lot of dirty words (most of which I need to google).  He’s like an X-rated version of Marcel Luske. And me? Well, I lost all respect amongst poker bloggers when my set of jacks held up against Pokerati Dan’s hammer.  But that’s just what happens when you jack up a hammer.

I’m very sad I won’t be playing my buddy Choppy Poo and will miss Kid Dynamite’s smart-arse-isms; however, I’m confident Kid will be there railing the freeroll with some Dynamite chatting.  Like… “I can’t believe I’m railing a freeroll.”  He probably won’t read this before the tournament on Saturday so don’t tell him I typed that…. let’s just wait and see what he says.

My Warm Fuzzy Poker Friends

When you have some sort of disaster… sms, pins and internet via blackberry really comes in handy.  Since Hurricane Ike hit Houston… I’ve received many supportive messages from friends and readers.  For example, Eric Morris of Bluff Magazine and the Entities have checked on us several times.  Joe Sebok sent some well wishes along with a mental hug, my PokerListings Run-Good Challengers were excited I missed the registration I was safe and Dr. Pauly (who is not related to Dr. Pepper) sent me a sweet message and a new nickname. And of course all of my friends from high school whom I met in real life.

My blackberry allowed me to stay in touch with family despite the hurricane causing the largest internet outage in the history of the internet which is not a long history.

So, the latest is… we have water, electricity and we are safe.  My husband’s business on the oth er hand… not so great.  Part of the roof came off, the 15ft bay doors blew in, half the side of the building has a crease along the outside from bending in half and that’s because the wind blew the nuts so hard they came unscrewed.  Yep, I just wrote that outloud and it was not a pun because I’m not a perve (like some other poker bloggers) but I am married to someone and friends with people who will totally say something about the previous sentence. OK, I’ll be honest…I wrote nuts when it should have been bolts.  Crazy.

Seriously though, while his business is a mess… we are grateful to be alive since we have heard some horrific rumors of a particular small coastal town.  I just can’t even post what I’ve heard, as it’s too disturbing.
